Bury could be without defender Ben Futcher, who picked up an ankle injury during pre-season.Boss Alan Knill has made a host of signings over the summer and could hand debuts to a number of players.

New signings Justin Richards and Gary Roberts are expected to make their debuts for Port Vale.

Lewis Haldane (ankle infection) will miss out after suffering an insect bite during pre-season training, and captain Tommy Fraser (shin) is also ruled out.

Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke: "I've never said that we're going to get promoted because you can never tell.

"If they get off to a good start, you never know, because confidence and belief builds.

"I would think there are 15 other teams that all think they're going to get promoted or have good seasons, and looking at the odds from the bookies we're not one of them."
