Bury striker Ryan Lowe has revealed he has begun preliminary talks about extending his existing contract. The 32-year-old hit 28 goals to help the Shakers win promotion to League One this season and was voted the League Two player of the year.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "I've got two years left at Bury, I'm in the process of speaking regarding a new contract to extend my saty.

"I feel as if I should be rewarded for what I've done last season."

"That's not being greedy in any sense, it's just the fact that I played a big part in getting Bury into League One and I feel I need rewarding for it," he added.

His haul of 27 league goals played a major part the Shakers finishing second in League Two and included a new club record for scoring in nine consecutive games.

"I've sat down with the chairman and the directors and they're more than happy to sit down and speak to me," he continued.

"In the next few weeks hopefully you'll be hearing that I've signed a new contract, but if clubs come in for me and offers come in that the club can't refuse, then that is out of my hands.

"I've got a contract at Bury, I love it here and if anything changes it won't be down to me."

Bury will play in the third tier of English football next year for the first time since the 2001/02 season and Lowe is confident they can have similar success to local rivals Rochdale, who finished in ninth place after promotion.

"They [Rochdale] just missed out on the play-offs but I think we had a better team of individuals than Rochdale last season, when we played them in our league," Lowe said.

"If we can match anything like Rochdale have done this season then then I'm sure it will be an exceptional season, but our main status will be to win as many games as we can and see where it takes us."
