Silkmen win is fitting tribute

By Team Talk
Saturday, 13th March 2010
After an emotional build-up to the first home game since Alexander's passing, including floral tributes from all six clubs he had previously managed, the team he built did him proud on the pitch.

They might have taken the lead after 14 minutes when Ross Draper chested down a John Rooney cross for sub Craig Lindfield to volley inches past the upright.

But the Silkmen did break the deadlock after 29 minutes as Emile Sinclair broke down the left before picking out Ben Wright to stroke home his third goal of the season with a neat left-footed shot from eight yards.

Bury almost levelled three minutes before the break. Michael Jones' free-kick crashed off the post and Ryan Lowe saw a shot blocked on the line by Shaun Brisley after the ball had been clipped back into the box. Moments later the angry Lowe was sent off for a needless off-the-ball elbow on Macc skipper Sean Hessey.

The hosts extended their lead after 57 minutes when a Nat Brown volley was blocked on the six-yard line for Lindfield to turn neatly and drill home his second of the season.

Out-of-sorts Bury were then denied by home keeper Jon Brain, who tipped a looping header from Tom Elliott over the bar.
